The responsible gambling this is the subject of the report that Playtech has recently published. The company has conducted a survey among more than two thousand adults in Colombia, Chile, Brazil and Argentina. These four countries have convergent approaches to the game , Colombia being the most advanced country in gambling legislation and has measures to protect players. Chile and Brazil are still giving steps towards adequate legislation of online gambling, while in Argentina Buenos Aires has just authorized its first legal online casinos.

The results of the Playtech survey

The four countries of origin of the respondents are at different stages of their gambling legislation processes. While in Brazil gambling is basically illegal, at least until the federal Senate decides on the legislative proposal approved in the Chamber of Deputies, in Argentina the provinces are implementing unequally the legislation authorizing online gambling. Colombia has the most advanced regulation in the region and in Chile, the interest in online gambling seems to be lower than in the rest of the countries.

When asked if they had placed bets in the last 6 months, the respondents answered as follows:

Yes :

  • Colombia: 68%
  • Brazil: 56%
  • Argentina: 48%
  • Chile: 40%

No :

  • Colombia: 32%
  • Brazil: 44%
  • Argentina: 52%
  • Chile: 60%

The first thing that jumps out at the results of the survey is how the regulatory framework, in this case in Colombia, creates confidence and security when placing bets in the authorized operators. Among the concerns of the respondents in the Playtech report is the lack of knowledge of how to bet safely. Although, as a rule, online gambling companies enjoy a great reputation in the region.

How to know that an operator is safe

32% of respondents in Brazil confessed to not knowing how to bet safely. The figures significantly coincide with those of those people who recognize that the game does not interest them. From among the reasons given for not betting , the following are very interesting:

I don't know how to bet safely

  • Brazil: 32%
  • Colombia: 26%
  • Argentina: 22%
  • Chile: 17%

Low interest in the game :

  • Chile: 40%
  • Argentina: 37%
  • Colombia: 34%
  • Brazil: 20%

For those responsible for Playtech more information about the brands of online operators, about the games and offers, and also about the payment methods they seem fundamental . There are differences between countries, but respondents seem to agree that better local regulations for the protection of money and for data protection are necessary, two fundamental concerns.

From all this Playtech draws a really important conclusion. If players like to compare between offers, visiting several operators at once, the lack of effective regulation can lead customers to become interested in unregulated online casinos where they are exposed to greater risks . In the long run, this undermines users' trust in online gambling.
