The opening of Luckia in Vigo is delayed
The opening of the Luckia casino in Vigo, scheduled for the end of 2019, is postponed until 2020. The establishment is an appendix to the one already existing in A Toxa. According to the company itself, the cause would be the delay in receiving the machines that the premises will have.
The new Luckia store in Vigo will finally open in 2020
Unlike Abel Caballero's 10 million LED lights, those of the Luckia casino in the A Laxe shopping center, in Vigo, will not shine this Christmas. The intention of the group was to open the doors of the new game room at the end of 2019; however, the opening has had to be rescheduled for 2020 .
According to the company, the reason would be the late receipt of the recreational machines that the establishment will have . Most of them are of the latest technology and have been sent from Japan. In the absence of the machines, everything else is ready for opening.
Already in September 2019, in the absence of some permits from both the Vigo city council and the Xunta de Galicia, the casino decided to start and accelerate the personnel selection process to meet its goal of starting operating before the end of the year.
Currently, while the last machines are being received, the staff, mainly composed of dealers, receptionists and waiters, is being trained for the correct performance of their duties. The new casino will generate about a hundred direct jobs and about 75 indirect.
New law of the game
The new casino located in the A Laxe shopping center, in Vigo, is a branch of the one already run by the Coruña group together with Cirsa, the Catalan group, in A Toxa. The opening of this second casino in Vigo has been possible thanks to a legislative amendment in the Lei do Xogo de Galicia . Both groups had been asking the Galician administration for years to be allowed to open a second establishment. Finally, they received the yes with the legislative amendment.
Likewise, along with the casino de Luckia in Vigo, another casino in the province of a Coruña will open the doors of another branch: the Atlantic Casino . Both rooms will be able to start operating thanks to the modification of the Lei do Xogo de Galicia, a reform similar to the one that allowed the Comar group, chaired by José Collazo, to open the Gran Vía Casino in Madrid in 2013.
Of course, this reform and the news of the opening of two new gambling halls comes at the worst time for the sector : several political parties, mostly on the left, and numerous social movements have severely attacked the gambling sector and the weak regulation of bookmakers . At the beginning of October, several rallies took place against the proliferation of this type of establishments in the poorest neighborhoods.
Likewise, in the same month, Xoaquín Fernández Galeaga, parliamentary spokesman of PSdeG, was especially concerned about the increasingly high rates of gambling in the population , especially, among the youngest. He related this problem to "the presence of bookmakers in the vicinity of educational centers”, although he gave more importance to the growth of online gaming portals , since any young person with a mobile phone could access them.
“We have to [...] to call on the new government to study this reality and also to put an end to a proliferation of gambling practices by the Xunta” – Xoaquín Fernández Monteaga , parliamentary spokesperson for PSdeG
The gaming sector accuses the Xunta of discrimination regarding public gambling
For his part, the gaming sector has publicly denounced the discrimination suffered by private companies in the sector with respect to public ones . It was one of the most talked about and discussed topics during the game summit organized by AGEO on October 23, along with the need to deny and combat the social alarm generated by the situation of bookmakers and gambling venues.
The businessmen who attended the summit, including José González, president of Luckia, reiterated their desire to promote responsible and fair gambling, for which they demanded a clear law, and that allows the growth of the sector.
